Yuu should have trusted his gut. He should have gone with Kimizuki and Yoichi to that stupid circus show thing. So what everyone danced around naked in it. If only he had known the alternative would be to find himself in a fucking strip club with two drunk as all hell girls.

On his birthday.

He stared at the entrance, frozen in place. The bright lights of the name, Sanguinem, taunted him from above. Shinoa had been leading them in, and she turned to grab his arms and pull him through the front doors. The lights bounced off her purple hair and white teeth as she grinned.

“Yuuu-saaaaan don’t be like this. You like girls too, right? So this works out for all of us.”

Yuu rolled his eyes. “This is my birthday, why aren’t we somewhere I want to go?”

“Because you couldn’t decide on anything, but you didn’t want to go with the guys!” Mitsuba appeared from behind, pushing him forward by the shoulders. Yuu could smell the alcohol on her breath as she leaned against his back. He swore on his life he would never let them pregame ever again.

Once inside, neither of the girls released their hold on Yuu. They were led by a hostess in a short skirt and corset into the main room. Immediately, Yuu wanted to sink into a corner and hide. The place was huge, with a giant, brightly lit stage in the center, and an upstairs part of the stage with a see-through floor. The small armchairs were crammed together all around, especially underneath the second level. Their group was led to a cluster of chairs close to the center, with a prime view above. Shinoa and Mitsuba cheered and high fived each other. Yuu collapsed into a seat and threw his head back, only to practically get whiplash springing back up because there was a woman’s ASS right above it.

Shinoa and Mitsuba howled with laughter.

“I hate you both.”

“Oh come on, Yuu-san! You can’t be a cherry boy forever.” Shinoa kicked his knee gently.

“I’m not a cherry boy! I just don’t tell you guys everything like you all do!” More laughter from the girls. Yuu crossed his arms and legs and pouted.

He should have just gone to the cirque du whatever. Who cared how awkward it would have been with Kimizuki. The two of them had hardly spoken since Mitsuba’s birthday party in July, but maybe they could have worked on patching things up. . .

His thoughts were interrupted by a waitress asking for drinks, which he waived off as the other two happily ordered.

“Ladies room!” They both shouted out after ordering, and ran away without looking back.

“Don’t leave me here!” Yuu reached out after them, but the music reverberating off everything in existence made it pretty much impossible to hear anyone who wasn’t screaming directly in front of his face.

Yuu held his head in his hands, rubbing at his temples. He would definitely go into hibernation for all future birthdays.

He leaned back, making sure not to look up as he did so. Instead, he looked to his right. He could see a bar pressed against the wall and mildly packed with customers. Yuu watched the crowd move around it like bees in a honeycomb. He expected to see a scantily clad bartender like the rest of the staff -

The crowd parted just enough for him to catch a look at the bartender - a dude. A hot dude. He had messy bright blonde hair pulled back in a short ponytail, wisps of hair falling around his face. Yuu couldn’t tell the color of his eyes, maybe blue, but his skin was pale. He wore a white dress shirt rolled up to the elbows, and a tight black vest. Yuu could swear there were piercings in his ears. The guy was smiling and talking to the people around him. Their eyes met, and neither of them looked away.

He felt his knee slapped and jumped with a yelp. Shinoa and Mitsuba giggled and fell over each other as they took their seats.

“Did you find any ladies for us while we were gone?” Shinoa teased, leaning against Mitsuba. She

“Of course not.”

“Aww you’re no fun. We need to figure out your type.”

“I really don’t-”

“Oh oh Shinoa get her!” Mitsuba pointed excitedly somewhere behind Yuu. He braced for impact as a voice crooned over him.

“This looks like a fun place to be.”

The girls cheered and clapped as their first victim of the night stepped into the center of their circle. She was tall, curvy, and had long curly blonde hair falling over her holy shit her breasts were huge.

Yuu looked back towards the bar. He watched the hot bartender as he flipped bottles and poured drink after drink. Something about him. . . Yuu couldn’t stop staring.

“Yuu!! It’s rude to ignore company!” Mitsuba hit his knees.

“I thought you said you weren’t a cherry boy!” Shinoa joined in, laughing.

Yuu growled, refusing to look back at them for now. He heard giggling under the loud beat of music. After trying to discreetly study the bartender for a little longer, he glanced in their direction. They had already forgotten about him. The tall dancer pressed against Shinoa’s lap while Mitsuba stared, hands on Shinoa’s shoulders.

I chose poorly.

They weren’t wrong, though. He hadn’t thought of anything to do. He had been in a funk, lately. And just hadn’t been motivated to do much aside from follow the two sets of couples around wherever they dragged him. Usually he didn’t mind. But this was the first time his plan backfired.

He decided to take advantage of the girls being distracted to finally get something to drink. He looked around, but no waitress was in sight, just more and more dancers. He tried not to make eye contact with anyone. It was all way too much for Yuu. Yes, he had been with women. . .okay fine,a woman. . . but this was all just.

He couldn’t deal with so much sexuality in his fucking face.

He got up and walked to the bar, collecting his nerves as much as possible. He just wanted to get a drink, nothing more. The hot bartender wouldn’t even give him a second look. He would smile and take his order, and hand him his drink, like everyone else.

He elbowed his way past the people drinking and watching the dancers on stage. He leaned against the cool metal of the bartop. The bartender stepped in front of him, his eyes, bright blue, seemed tired, and betrayed the smile plastered to his face. The instant their eyes met, Yuu’s heart nearly leapt out of his chest.

“Uh h-hello. I’d like a ginger ale. Please.” Yuu spoke as quickly as he could and fumbled as he pulled out cash from his wallet.

“Just that?” Hot Bartender raised an eyebrow as he poured and set the drink on the bar. Yuu noticed he wore thick leather bracelets around each wrist - he made a mental note to add this to the list of things he found extremely attractive.

“Yeah, sorry. I’m a lame date.” Yuu shrugged and slid the money across the bar. He glanced behind him to the girls.

A cold hand covered his own. Yuu turned back, looking from the hand to the guy. Hot Bartender grinned, but it was different than the smiles he had watched him give other people. Softer.

“I’m about to go on break.”

Yuu stared at him. Blinked a few times.

“Yes, I’m asking you to join me on my break.”

More staring. “What? Why?”

“I’m Mika,” he released Yuu’s hand, taking the money, “come on. I could use some company.”

Yuu looked behind him. The dancer had moved on to Mitsuba’s lap. The blonde girl’s face was buried deep in those huge-

Well my night couldn’t get much worse so. . .

He returned his gaze to those waiting blue eyes. Fuck, they were bright. “I’m Yuu.”

Mika smiled wide. Yuu noted it looked like he also wore eyeliner. Another addition to the list. He motioned for Yuu to follow to the end of the bar, where they stood without any barrier between, and it was suddenly much too warm.

Mika was. . . fucking hot. He wore tight black jeans with ripped knees, and nice shoes like he’d seen models wear in ads, the black ones with pointy toes. He wrapped an arm around Yuu’s waist and brought their faces close. He smelled like mints and cigarettes.

“Just follow me, be cool.” He grabbed his hand.

Yuu’s heart raced. He had no idea what the fuck to expect. They walked past a bouncer, through a red door, and down a hallway with big black leather doors. The music of the club still bounced off the walls, and when he tried shouting out to Mika it went unnoticed. Mika stopped at a door at the end of the hallway. He grinned at Yuu, winked, and stepped in, still pulling Yuu by the hand.

Once inside, Yuu heard the door lock behind him. The lighting turned everything in the room red. There was a huge ass couch, and a small table in the center. The music was muted some behind the walls. He turned and looked at Mika.

“What the fuck is going on?”

“Yuu, I have a proposition for you.” He took a step closer.

Yuu took a step back, legs hitting the couch. “I. . . a what?”

“Can I be honest with you?”

“Uh, sure.” Yuu sat on the couch. Mika moved to hover over him, arms crossed.

“I don’t see many people here I like. I only work here because my family runs the place.”

“O.. .okay?”

“I like you, though. Something about you, is different. I feel like I can trust you.”

There went Yuu’s heart again, about to beat out of his fucking chest. He had to play things cool, even though he had the same thoughts about this guy. “What are you talking about?”

Without another word, Mika knelt in front of him, hands running up his thighs. As Yuu began to try to protest, Mika kissed him. It wasn’t a tender kiss, not soft and questioning, it was a kiss, his tongue immediately in Yuu’s mouth, pushing against him--

“Whoa! What is in your mouth?!” Yuu pushed at Mika’s shoulders. He had felt something cold, metallic, against the roof of his mouth and the fuck was that about.

Mika stayed close and smiled, this time a small ball sticking out between his teeth. “You haven’t kissed someone with their tongue pierced before?”

“N-No.. no.” Yuu tried to hide how stupid he felt at reacting the way he did, thankful the room was so red to hide how much he was blushing. Mika grinned wider, leaning up and kissing him again. As they kissed, the sensation of the metal sent shivers through him, and soon he found himself seeking it out, rolling his tongue around it, allowing the kiss to go even deeper.

Mika smiled against his lips. “ I should show you how fun these can be.”

Yuu’s incoming question was interrupted by his own gasp as Mika pulled at the zipper of his pants.

“Hey!”

Mika stopped, one eyebrow raised. He rolled the piercing between his teeth.

“Can you just. . . I mean, we’re at your work?” Yuu cursed himself for being so nervous.

Mika laughed. “You’re so nervous, Yuu-chan. I’m on break. And no one will bust through the door.”

“Yuu-chan?!” No one had called him that since he was a kid.

Mika laughed, “Sorry, you’re just too cute. I couldn’t help it.” Fingers trailed Yuu’s thighs as he spoke, and when he smiled he rolled that piercing between his teeth, lifting his eyebrows.

They stared at each other. Yuu answered any unspoken questions by leaning back and focusing on the ceiling. He did really want to get some. Anything. The last time he had been with anyone. . .

He didn’t want to think about it, not about Kimizuki. Not now. That was a one-time thing. A stupid one-time drunk thing several years ago. Not counting his stupid behavior at Mitsuba’s party. . .

“Yuu-chan?” A low voice spoke against his ear. Mika’s body pressed against him, hands running under his shirt, scratching at his skin lightly.

fuck it.

Yuu leaned forward, pressing their foreheads together. Mika pushed their lips together in another kiss - he liked to kiss hard, apparently, and Yuu tried his best to keep up. It was nothing like the kisses he had with girls before, soft and gentle ones, or the stupid sloppy drunk ones with Kimizuki. Mika pulled at Yuu’s pants, and he did his best to oblige, sliding up while Mika pulled at them, trying not to freak out because he didn’t even know this fucking guy but this was amazing and he needed to stop questioning it.

Their kiss was broken. Yuu opened his eyes to see Mika take him in his mouth. He called out a string of curse words and clamored to grip the couch. Mika sucked hard, the piercing in his mouth was weird and amazing and good and he didn’t want it to stop. Yuu watched Mika take him in fully, watched his tongue flick out to lick the sides, before swallowing him once more. Yuu dug his hands into that gorgeous golden hair, his ability to think clearly fading fast. Blue eyes lifted to stare at him, and Yuu moaned loudly at the sight, thankful no one could hear a thing. Mika’s free hand gripped his thigh, while the other pumped him in time with his mouth, and Yuu fought the urge to buck his hips.

“M-Mika! Fuck, don’t stop holy fuck!”

Mika pumped faster and twirled that tongue that goddamn gift from heaven around him.

Yuu’s hands flew to the sides, grabbing for the wall, or something, anything to support him. Mika pushed him to his limits, and he cried out as he orgasmed, no longer able to control his hips from rolling with the pleasure.

He let out all the air left in his lungs and looked at Mika, shivering from kisses trailed on his skin.

“Fuck.”

Mika grinned against his inner thigh. “See, told you.”

Yuu ran a hand through his hair and closed his eyes, no longer caring how he looked when he left the room. He felt weight on him. He opened his eyes as Mika straddled him, unbuttoning his own vest.

“Are you serious?!”

Mika gave Yuu a grin again, the one he didn’t give anyone else, and slid his vest, then his shirt off. He was way hotter shirtless than was legal, or something. He had muscles defining his chest and stomach. Yuu couldn’t help but stare.

“Are you saying you want to go back out there, Yuu-chan?”

It took zero seconds to think of the answer. “Not at all.”

Mika rolled against him, kissing him and grinding their hips together as he undid his own pants, and like some sort of gymnast managed to pull them off without breaking their kiss. Yuu’s shirt was promptly removed, and he found himself on his back. The soft leather of the couch cool against his skin. The reality of the situation hit him as their kiss was paused and he heard Mika rummaging around the table in the center.

“Hey, um, are you sure this is. . .this is okay?”

“Yuu-chan, it’s okay.”

“You’re some bartender, let me tell you that right now.”

Mika laughed and appeared above him, hands on either side of Yuu’s head. His hair had fallen out of the ponytail and flowed around his face in a beautiful wild messy halo.

“I’m the best bartender in town.”

“I would agree to anything you said right now, I’m not gonna lie.”

Mika winked and kissed him again, just a little softer, while his hands roamed Yuu’s body. He pinched a nipple, trailed a finger down Yuu’s stomach, scratched down his side, eventually breaking their kiss as he made his way to Yuu’s ass.

Yuu must have come across as nervous despite trying to seem the exact opposite, because Mika’s grip loosened and he leaned back over.

“Ready, Yuu-chan?”

“Y-ya. I am. I promise.” He forced himself to control his breathing and offered a smile. Mika narrowed his eyes and gave Yuu a quick kiss before he leaned back, lubed up fingers pushing into him, stretching. Yuu arched his back. He wrapped a leg around Mika’s waist.

Mika held eye contact as his fingers continued moving slowly inside Yuu.“There’s something else. . . you should know,”

“Wha--now?” Yuu groaned into the touch, his hips moving against Mika’s fingers, against the pain and pleasure building in his body.

“I have another piercing, you might enjoy it.”

“What are you talking about?”

Fingers slid away, replaced by Mika’s cock press against him.

“Yuu-chan. . .” His voice was softer, almost whimpering. Yuu didn’t respond except by moving his hips against the contact, urging him on.

Mika pushed into Yuu, slowly, really fucking slowly. Yuu gasped and grabbed Mika’s arms, squeezing his eyes tight. He shouted out words, he wasn’t even sure what. Mika thrusted deep, and something hit Yuu, something new. He cried out and sat up on his elbows.

“Did that hurt?” Mika stopped moving, and bit his lower lip.

“No, no, just, weird?”

His grin returned. “Told you I had another piercing.”

“WAIT that?! You have that? Ngh--” any follow up questions were cut off by Mika swirling his hips against him, and fuck it felt good. Yuu fell backwards, and Mika leaned over him, a hand on his once again hard dick, the other grabbing Yuu’s hand, interlacing fingers and squeezing tight. They stared at each other, Yuu cried out, watching Mika’s mouth drop open as he replied, his eyes closing now and again. They fell into a rhythm as Mika moved faster and pumped Yuu in time with his thrusts. Yuu reached up with his free hand to cling to blonde hair, to dig his fingers in, sitting up enough to kiss Mika, trying to match his intensity of kisses. The tongue piercing combined with everything else, it was nearly too intense.

“Yuu!” Mika called out against the kiss. He bit Yuu’s lip before screaming out again, pushing his deepest and stroking his hardest as he came. Yuu followed him, bucking his hips up, clinging to Mika’s sides, trying to feel as much as he could, teeth gritted.

Mika collapsed on top of him, hot breaths tickling his ear.

“Mika?”

“Mmm.” He didn’t move, though. He kept his head nestled against Yuu’s neck.

He wasn’t sure what to do. So he kissed Mika’s cheek. Mika sat up on his elbows, smiling softly, eyes half open. “You aren’t from around here, are you?’

Yuu’s fingers traced circles on Mika’s arms, but he didn’t answer, only bit his lower lip. Mika watched him for a beat before pulling away. He grabbed a towel he must have procured from the magical table.

“That’s a shame.”

Yuu took the towel as it was tossed to him, suddenly aware of one, how much of a mess he no doubt looked and two, that he was naked in front of a complete stranger. “Ya, I guess it is.” He cleaned himself as best he could, trying to hide his growing embarrassment.

“Here,” Mika had already gotten dressed, and finished buttoning his vest. He handed Yuu what looked like a piece of a napkin. “If you’re ever in town again, give me a call?”

“Ya. . . of course.” He wasn’t sure what else he could say, given the circumstances.

Mika leaned forward and kissed Yuu, slowly, one hand on his cheek. He sucked at his bottom lip, trailing his tongue, before leaving for the door.

“Take your time in here, no one will bother you.”

“Uh, ok. Thanks.” Yuu didn’t know how what else to say. He clung to the small shred of paper between his fingers.

“Oh, and happy birthday, Yuu-chan.” Mika flashed another wide smile and left. Yuu blinked, confused.

How did he. . know. . . my birthday?

His eyes went wide. He jumped up off the couch, shouting out Shinoa’s name into the void of loud stupid club music.

Yuu smoothed the thin piece of napkin out with his fingers, then set it before him on the table.

If you’re ever in town again, give me a call?

It had been 8 months since their trip to Sanguinem. Since his encounter with the hot as fuck bartender named Mika. Every now and then, Yuu would look at the number. He would study the writing, remember the way the hands that wrote the number pressed into his skin.

fuck

He never reached out, though. The guy was on the other side of the country. He didn’t see the point.

The door opened and he heard the loud laughter of the “squad” entering the cafe. Shinoa danced and twirled as she led the group, while Mitsuba tried to reign her in. Kimizuki and Yoichi followed, arms wrapped around each other’s waists.

same shit, different day.

Yuu, still alone, while everyone else established relationships and grew up around him. He gingerly shoved the number into the small pocket of his wallet.

“Yuu-san, don’t look so sad. we’re all here now!” Shinoa hugged him and ruffled his hair before plopping down next to him. Everyone else followed.

“So, before coffee, care to tell us why you dragged us all here on a friday night?” Kimizuki poked Mitsuba in the arm.

“It was her idea, not mine,” she pointed her chin at Shinoa, her blonde pigtails bouncing around her face as she did so.

“Well,” Shinoa raised her head, “sorry if I believe anything related to our epic wedding is special.”

“We’re in a Starbucks.”

Shinoa punched Yuu’s arm.

“Ow! What?”

“Anyways, we wanted to formally invite you all to our bachelorette party!” Shinoa smacked Yuu once more as she spoke.

“What?” Kimizuki narrowed his eyes, “isn’t that normally--”

“--for other girls to go to?” Yoichi finished.

“In case you forgot, there isn’t a bachelor in this instance, so. . . “

Shinoa finished, “You guys are all our best friends. There isn’t anyone else we would want to party with.”

Yuu bumped Shinoa’s shoulder with his own. “Sure, I’m down.”

Shinoa clapped her hands together and targeted the other two with her big brown puppy eyes. They appeared caught like prey, eyes wide. Yoichi had his hand resting on the back on Kimizuki’s head where he had been idly playing with his new undercut moments before. Kimizuki’s eyes stopped on Yuu’s first, and moved on to Yoichi. Yuu hated way his heart sped up.

They had gone a couple of years with no one knowing about their stupid one night stand except the two of them. But whenever Yuu felt lonely, his thoughts would rush back to that night. At least the start of it.

But without fail he would remember how it ended; with Kimizuki’s lips biting into his neck, his fingers leaving marks on his skin, as Kimizuki shouted out the wrong name.

And now Kimizuki sat in front of him with that guy.

He fucking hated everything.

After Kimizuki and Yoichi seemed to have a telepathic conversation, Kimizuki responded for the both of them. “Fine.”

More elated sounds from Shinoa and smiles from Mitsuba.

“Wait,” Yuu interrupted the celebration, “where is your party going to be?”

“We wanna go back to Sanguinem!” Shinoa cheered.

The color drained from Yuu’s face. He only hoped he would pass out and miss the entire thing. Especially given the look Shinoa threw his direction.

“Yuu-san, I figured you would especially want to go back!”

“Let’s get some coffee!” He sprang up from the table before another word could be spoken. Yoichi chased after him, asking what Shinoa meant.

The coffee managed to distract everyone enough and steer the conversation to planning their trip. It wouldn’t be for another two months, to give everyone time to prepare. As they were discussing the logistics, a knee knocked against his own - he glanced at Shinoa. The other three were talking amongst themselves.

“You know I’m gonna keep bugging you about what happened last time we were there.”

“Just because you told him to talk to me doesn’t mean I owe you anything.” Yuu pulled the straw wrapper between his fingers, tearing it into tiny pieces.

Shinoa’s gaze softened. “You think. . . he didn’t like you? I told you, I only said it was your birthday and you kept staring at him. That’s all.”

Yuu let the straw wrapper - which had become confetti - fall onto the table. “It doesn’t matter,” he sighed, face turning hot. Her eyes shifted to the wallet sitting in his lap. He quickly moved it to his back pocket, just as the others called them into their conversation. He feigned interest, not paying attention to the topic at hand. All he kept thinking was

. . .should he call?

The doors to Sanguinem taunted him like before. The five of them were dressed up in their nicest attire, per Shinoa’s request. The two brides-to-be wore white shorts and sparkly white tops, and all the guys were in suits.

Yuu trailed behind the two couples, hands stuffed into his pants pockets. His dark green shirt left unbuttoned at the top - he refused to dress up much more. But he also didn’t want anyone to know he stared at himself in the mirror for the entire time Kimizuki and Yoichi were in the shower together. The past 10 months he had pretty much idolized Mika and their encounter. He only hoped he could avoid the bartender. He figured at this point the guy forgot about him. Or hated him. Or both.

He watched as each couple clung to each other, laughing as they entered - everyone but him had some drinks in the hotel room. His stomach was in knots, and he couldn’t imagine adding alcohol to the mix. Not to mention the fact he and Kimizuki were finally on good terms again. It turned out as long as he didn’t drink around the guy, he stopped trying to shove his tongue down his best friend’s throat.

Yuu didn’t like to think about all the other implications of what such a revelation meant. At least it wasn’t weird with his friends anymore.

The hostess guided them through the club, walking past the chairs lined up around the stages. They walked towards the bar, where Mika had been. Yuu hid behind Kimizuki, thankful of his height for once, and glanced behind as they passed.

No Mika.

Maybe he would be lucky, and the guy was off work. The hostess led them down a hallway. Yuu recognized it immediately.

don’t go in the same room don’t go into the same--

She stopped at the end of the hallway. At the same. Fucking. Door.

of course.

Yuu inhaled the smell of cigarettes and perfume mixed in the air. Once inside the room, he acted as amazed as everyone else, pretending he hadn’t felt how soft the leather couches were, making sure to comment on the red lighting that softened everyone’s features. He watched as everyone piled onto the couch.

“Yuu-kun, everything okay?” Yoichi asked as he stretched out over Kimizuki. They all fell on top of each other exactly where he had experienced amazing-

“Yuu!” Kimizuki brought him out of his thoughts. He smiled as much as he could, and sat next to Shinoa, ignoring the stare she gave him.

Well, at least he had passed the point of potentially running into Mika. He just had to hide in that room all night to make sure.

******

He tossed the remnants of the cigarette to the ground, letting the last drag of smoke out through his nose. He rubbed his hands together, cursing for not having a jacket with him.

“Hey, Mika,” a voice echoed into the alleyway as the door opened, “break time’s over. I’m tired of dealing with your party.”

“That bachelorette one?”

“Ya, you know I hate groups of people.”

“You’re a bartender, Lacus. Get over it.” Mika cracked his neck, pulled the door open out of Lacus’s grasp and stormed inside.

same shit, different day

Mika had gotten used to every day of his life being a shit day. Except. . . his fingers twitched for another cigarette at the twinge of emotion rising in his gut. He thought back to that guy. He had held out a small bit of hope for some time after they met he would have called. It was his own fault, probably, for giving the caveat of him coming back to Sanguinem. He hadn’t wanted to scare the guy off. But he had really. . .

liked him

He always had a habit of doing a great job messing everything up for himself.

Mika pushed away the thoughts. He grabbed a drink tray and made his way down the familiar hallway. Another night with a bunch of horny drunks. Maybe someone would at least be interesting or nice to look at.

Mika opened the door to the room, trying to ignore the same feeling he got every time he had walked into it the past 10 months. There were five people for this party, which wasn’t big, but Lacus was a lazy ass. One was hidden behind Horn, as her breasts were shoved up in his face. All Mika could see were long legs, and hands hovering above her back as she danced against the guy. There were two girls, one getting a lap dance from Chess. She had purple hair and seemed vaguely familiar. He didn’t give it a second thought. A blonde girl sat beside her, staring and cooing at Chess, drunkenly. The other two guys were too busy making out with each other in the corner to be bothered by anything else.

Mika rolled his eyes. The party could be considered one of the lamest ones he had the joy of working in a while. “Drinks?” He shouted as he slammed the door shut. Four of the five looked up at him. They pulled away from their various distractions to order more drinks. The purple haired girl had a huge grin on her face. She smacked the guy getting action from Horn, but he simply waved her off. Mika gathered the empty glasses, placing them on his tray.

“Does he want a drink or. . .” He craned his head in the last guy’s general direction.

“He’ll have a ginger ale.” Purple hair shouted.

Mika nodded. He leaned over to grab one more glass, and peered over at the guy enveloped in breasts. They made eye contact.

Despite the red lighting in the room, Mika knew the color of those eyes.

A beautiful green.

Yuu

The guy’s eyes went wide, and he turned his head quickly back to Horn’s chest. Mika stood frozen. When Yuu kept his gaze averted, he straightened up and left the room, slamming the door once more behind him.

He leaned against the wall. He took several shaky deep breaths.

Why did it bother him so much? Yuu wasn’t the first guy he had hooked up with. What did it matter he was there and hadn’t called.

Why did it make his chest tighten. His hand ball up into fists.

there are not enough cigarettes in the world to be able to deal with this right now

“Yuu-san!”

“I know I know I fucking KNOW.” Horn had moved on to Mitsuba, while Chess sat chatting with Kimizuki and Yoichi. Yuu was thankful someone had managed to stop them from sucking face for a minute.

“So, what are you gonna do?”

Yuu hung his head between his legs. Their previous bartender had mentioned Mika’s name when explaining he was going on break. Yuu had hoped he could just hide behind one of the dancers the whole night. . .

“Fucking I don’t know, Shinoa.” He stood up, pacing his side of the room.

“Yuu-san,” Shinoa extended an arm towards him.

“I’m getting some air.” He threw open the door and let out a long breath after entering the hallway. He leaned over, hands on his thighs, trying to stave off the sensation of nausea sweeping over him.

who cares, the guy probably doesn’t even remember you. . .

“Yuu-chan?” He jolted up. Mika stood just inches away, drinks on a tray. He hadn’t been able to get a good look at him before. But he looked even hotter than what his memory had burned into his head.

The two stared at each other, and Yuu did the only reasonable thing he could think to do.

He ran past Mika as fast as he could.

He didn’t give a shit about the looks he got as he bolted through the club and out the front doors. He veered right and slammed his body against the cold wall, albeit a bit harder than he intended. His hands were balled up tightly into fists as he looked up at the dark sky.

Mika remembered him. Which meant he probably hated him, because it was on him, was his responsibility, to call. To keep in touch.

Yuu squeezed his eyes tight, angry at himself for being so upset, angry as tears rolled down his face. Why did this feel so. . . overdramatic. He took out his phone and tapped through Shinoa’s snaps - pics from inside of the squad, drinking, having a good time, kissing pics. . .

He knew why he felt this way. He was lonely. And maybe he fucked this one chance up.

“Lacus!”

Mika threw himself halfway across the bar, and his co-worker stared at him wide-eyed as he took a step away. He ignored the looks of customers flying out of his way.

“What the hell has gotten into you?”

“I need you to cover me for a bit.”

“What? No way, you already took your break.”

“I know but please, Lacus. I’ll pay you back somehow.” Mika ran around the bar and handed him the tray and notepad, doing his best to beg. It wasn’t something he was used to. They stared at each other. Lacus narrowed his eyes before he let out a long sigh and grabbed the tray.

“Fuck, fine but you owe me. So. Much.” He jabbed a finger at Mika’s chest.

“Thanks! I’ll be back soon.”

“Where are you-” He couldn’t finish the sentence before Mika charged for the front door. Mika hoped the guy hadn’t decided to leave. He stepped outside into the chilly night air. To his right saw Yuu leaning against the wall, eyes closed, chin tilted upwards.

Mika’s chest pulled. His thoughts skipped forward to instantly wanting to kiss that chin. To pull at his shirt collar and bite into the soft skin of Yuu’s neck.

He squared his shoulders and walked, slowly, to where the guy he had been thinking about for nearly a year stood. He pulled out a cigarette, ignoring how his hands shook as he lit it. He took the first drag, inhaling the smoke, calming himself some, as he propped up against the wall. Yuu still hadn’t noticed he had company.

“Do you smoke?”

“No, I-SHIT!” Yuu jumped away, eyes wide. Mika tried to stay calm, though, and offered a smirk.

“Mika, look, I can explain-”

“You don’t have to, it’s okay.”

“No, I mean, I-I fucked up, I didn’t call when I knew I was coming here.”

“That was almost a year ago.” Mika kept his head down, but looked at Yuu from the corner of his eyes. “I imagine you don’t even have my number anymore.”

He didn’t miss how Yuu’s hand shifted to his back pocket, before balling up and getting shoved into his front one instead.

“I just. . . never thought I would come back here.”

Mika let out a small laugh, “Life is funny that way sometimes, isn’t it?” He finished his cigarette, and popped a few mints in his mouth. He chewed on them, inhaling the intense aroma.

Yuu resumed his position against the wall, but had moved closer so their shoulders touched. Mika stretched out his fingers, letting them graze Yuu’s hand. He twitched away at first, but relaxed, allowing Mika to draw circles on the back of his hand.

“Mika, I. . .”

“You don’t have to keep apologiz-”

“I’m glad I got to see you again.” Yuu blurted out. Mika turned his head to look at the guy. He was staring at the ground, but his eyes were wide. Mika pulled at Yuu’s hand and interlaced their fingers together. He didn’t pull away.

“You should stay at my place tonight,” he spoke softly, despite his own nerves. He was all at once excited and terrified at how nervous Yuu made him feel..

“What?” Yuu finally made solid eye contact. Mika squeezed his hand.

“After your party, come over. Stay with me until you have to leave again.”

Yuu’s eyes were scanning his face. Mika smiled.

Yuu nodded.

Mika grabbed his hand and pulled him around the corner. He pushed Yuu back against the wall and pressed their lips together, letting his hands climb up into that dark hair he had dreamt of for months. His leg slid between Yuu’s knees. His chest ached in some crazy new way he wasn’t used to.

“Mika!” Yuu called out breathlessly, a hand on his chest.

“Sorry, I just,” Mika pressed against Yuu’s forehead. He kept his eyes shut. He rubbed bits of Yuu’s hair between his fingers.

Yuu wrapped arms wrapped around his waist, keeping Mika close.

“I should get back to the party.”

“You sure about that?”

“Mika.”

“Fine fine.”

“You’re working it! It’s not like we can’t talk.”

“But there are other people in there, too.”

“They’re nice. You should try talking to them.”

Mika clicked his piercing against his teeth and laughed. He pushed off the wall and straightened out his vest. He looked at Yuu, his face red. A cocky smile on his face.

Mike leaned forward and kissed the guy one more time.

“Yuu, where the hell did you run off to, you big idiot?” Kimizuki shouted, slurring. Clearly they had many, many more, drinks while he was gone. Shinoa and Mitsuba each had Horn and Chess in their laps. Yoichi stretched out along the couch with his head in Kimizuki’s. At least it looked like things were winding down.

“I just needed some air.”

“What you need,” Shinoa shouted, pulling Yuu’s hand, “is to drink.”

“I don’t think he should-” Yoichi sat up, suddenly seeming much more sober.

The door opened, and Mika stepped in. Yuu froze as they locked eyes. Mika smiled, then put on his best bartender face.

“Mika! You have returned to us!” Shinoa cried out.

Kimizuki raised his arms as if singing praises.“Drinks for all! You have saved us!”

“Same for everyone?” Mika collected the empty glasses around the room. Everyone cheered. He looked at Yuu. “Ginger Ale for you?”

Yuu nodded “I want to remember tonight,” he realized too late how that sounded, based on how Mika’s eyes widened just so, and how he coughed a little, before turning to leave the room.

what the fuck was that i said ohmygod

He settled next to Mitsuba. He figured it was safer to avoid Shinoa and her prying ways, especially when drinking. The two girls had fallen into a conversation with the strippers, once Mika had dropped off more drinks. Yuu wished he could have stayed in the room with them and talked - Yoichi was falling asleep, forcing Kimizuki to scoot closer to him as the guy stretched out on the couch once more.

At least the bachelorettes were having a good time. Yuu raised his glass at Shinoa when she caught him staring off in her direction, feeling slightly guilty about counting down the minutes until the party ended.

An annoying ray of light hit his face, stirring him awake. He rolled over to avoid it. Skin rubbed against skin.

Wait.

Yuu slowly opened his eyes. A sleeping Mika was the first thing he saw, his arms tucked under his pillow, face half buried into the soft material. He didn’t have a shirt on. Yuu moved his legs, noting the severe lack of clothing on himself.

He hesitantly reached out under the sheets, letting his fingers graze Mika’s soft skin. He came out of his groggy state and the memories of the night hit him smack in the heart.

Yuu pressed harder against Mika’s hip. Blue eyes slowly opened.

“Morning sunshine,” his voice was hoarse.

“Morning,” Yuu noted the roughness in his own voice.

“What time is it?” Mika rolled over to look at his phone, “Shit, it’s noon?”

Yuu sat up. “What?! My hotel check out was 11!”

“Weren’t you staying with your friends?”

“Sure, but that means they had to deal with my shit!”

Mika pulled at his arm, bringing him on top of him. Yuu blushed at the feeling of their naked bodies touching. Mika’s was warm.

“I’m sure they handled it just fine, Yuu-chan.”

He kissed him, softly, his piercing hitting Yuu’s teeth every now and then. Yuu pressed their foreheads together and sighed. Mika’s hands trailed his bare back.

“Run away with me, Yuu-chan,”

“What?” His eyes snapped open.

Mika laughed, “Wow, your face! I’m kidding. I just.” His hands moved up into Yuu’s hair. He leaned into the touch. “You live so far away.”

“I uh. Yea.” He nestled into Mika’s neck, enjoying the head scratches.

“I’ll make us some food,” Mika slid out from under Yuu, despite his protests as he grabbed at Mika’s skin, slipping out of his fingers. He threw on sweatpants and a baggy shirt - it was strange to see Mika like that, since all he knew him in was his super tight and clean cut work uniform. Yuu leaned over the bed and turned his phone off silent.

“Curry and rice okay?” He asked as he pulled his blonde hair back into a messy short ponytail

“Oh man, I haven’t had homemade curry in years.” He dropped his phone in excitement, turning his attention to Mika.

“What? Why not?” Mika rummaged through the cupboards in the small kitchen in the studio apartment.

Yuu stretched out on the bed, “Not sure, just hasn’t been something we made. But when I was in the orphanage, we had it all the time. Best curry of my life.”

Mika stopped moving. He looked up, holding a pot in one hand.

“What?”

“You’re an orphan?”

Yuu wrapped himself up in the soft blankets. “Well, I was adopted when I was 12, but ya.” Mika narrowed his eyes. He set the pan on the stovetop. His hands clung to the sink.

“Mika?”

“What’s your name?”

“Yuu, I already-”

“Your full name.”

“Well, I mean, I kept my name from the orphanage, it’s Yuuichirou Hyakuya. Why are you asking me all of a sudden?”

Mika’s shoulders hunched over, one hand covering his face. It looked like he was crying.

“Mika?!” Shit, Yuu was naked, he couldn’t just run over.

“We’re such idiots.”

“What is going on? Have you lost your mind?”

Mika seemed to get a hold of himself, then darted across the room, catching Yuu off guard and tackling him backwards onto the bed.

“Yuu-chan, it’s me.”

“Eh?!”

“Mikaela. Mikaela Hyakuya. I was adopted just before you.”

Yuu froze.

“Mika. . .”

They laid still, holding each other’s faces, staring.

The sound of his phone ringing interrupted the quiet.

“Shit! Sorry!” Yuu dove across the bed for the phone. He saw Shinoa’s name flashing across the screen, and answered, giving Mika an apologetic look. Mika waved his hand and went back to the kitchen.

“Yuu-san! What the hell?”

“I’m sorry, I overslept!”

“We got your stuff, where the hell are you?”

“I’m. . .” he forgot he had left his hotel room after tucking everyone in, since Mika’s shift wasn’t over when they left. He had left a note saying ‘be back in the morning.’

oops.

“I’m okay. I’ll meet you guys at the airport. Can you just take my stuff with you? Sorry for the trouble.”

“Did you have a good time?”

Yuu bit his lip, and glanced over his shoulder to the kitchen. Mika stood at the stove, chopsticks moving quickly as he cooked. The smell made him hungry, and memories rushed back to his time at Hyakuya, with Mika.

Mika. . .

Sunlight came in through the window, shining around him. Yuu’s fingers twitched.

“Yuu-saaan!”

“Yeah, I did.”

Shinoa sighed. “Ok, we are going to go get lunch before heading to the airport. Meet us there at 4, got it?”

“Got it.”

She hung up. Yuu stared at the phone. He reached into his pants pocket, grabbed his wallet, and fished out the piece of napkin he had held onto for 10 months.

He entered the number in his phone.

“Yuu-chan, do you want tea or coffee?”

“Coffee, for the love of everything holy in this world.”

Mika was thankful for the distraction of cooking. He needed to pull away, slowly, to start the process. He wasn’t ready to just rip off the proverbial band-aid. He glanced over every now and then though, at Yuu, in his bed.

Sure, they were childhood friends. But they still lived across the country from each other. Nothing had changed.

He brought his thoughts back to the curry so he didn’t burn it and ruin his first and maybe only opportunity to impress with his cooking. He usually couldn’t roll guys out of his bed fast enough. And yet there he was, making someone breakfast.

But this was Yuu-chan. This. . . this was different, right?

He got the plates together just as Yuu started to pull on his clothes.

“Ready?” Mika led him out to the balcony. He had a small table set up there. Even though he only lived in a studio apartment, he was glad he had a balcony to make things feel more spacious. Yuu stepped out, blinking against the early afternoon sun.

“Wow, your view!”

“Mm, you can see just how far in the daytime. . .” he recalled the night before, when they had stood together looking out over the blinking lights of the city while holding hands. Both of them nervous. It had felt. . .

so stupid. so amazing.

“Come on, let’s eat.”

They sat at the small table, the view hidden from them mostly, aside from the sky and other tall buildings. At first they ate in silence. Mika stared at Yuu, noticing his skin under the open collar of his wrinkled dress shirt. He smirked at the dark hair in a mess of bedhead. He hadn’t thought about Yuu-chan in years, and yet he still seemed so much the same.

“What time does your flight leave?”

Time to start the process.

“Um, six. But I need to be there by four.” Yuu poked at his curry as he spoke, before shoveling it into his mouth quickly.

“This is so good, Mika!”

Slowly.

“I can take you there, to the airport, it’s no problem.”

“You don’t have to. I can take a taxi.”

step away.

“I don’t mind, Yuu-chan.”

They ate quietly.

“Yuu-”

“Mika-”

They looked up at the same time. Mika sucked in all the air he could. He jumped from his seat and took Yuu’s face in his hands, causing him to drop the chopsticks. He kissed him, hard, almost sending them flying backwards out of the seat.

“Mika!” Yuu pushed against him “What the hell?”

More kisses. Mika couldn’t stop himself. He wanted to keep the band-aid on a little bit longer. He straddled Yuu, hands moved up into his hair, his beautiful ridiculous bedhead.

please don’t leave me.

“Mika.” Yuu pushed, and Mika listened.

“Sorry I-”

“Come visit me.” Blossoms of red dusted Yuu’s cheeks.

“Huh?”

“I said come visit me are you deaf.” Yuu crossed his arms. Mika blinked at him

“As in, where you live?”

“Duh.”

“Yuu-chan, you live across the country.”

“So?”

He removed himself from Yuu’s lap and leaned against the wall of the balcony. “So, what are you looking to get?”

“Get?”

“Out of this, dummy.”

Yuu toyed with a chopstick, poking a bit of rice left on his plate. “I don’t know. Something.”

Mika raised an eyebrow. “Well, first you have to say you love me.”

“WHAT?!” Yuu jumped out of his chair, eyes wide, “What the fuck-”

Mika laughed, hard. “Your face, it’s still too easy to get you riled up like that.”

Yuu narrowed his eyes.

“Okay, maybe not that, but,” Mika reached out a hand. Yuu looked at it, then back at him, before their fingers connected, clinging to each other. Mika brought him close, so Yuu’s body pressed up against him. He brushed their lips together.

“Maybe you could at least agree to be mine.” His voice shook. He hoped Yuu didn’t notice.

What the fuck was he saying, he didn’t date.

“Um,” Yuu let his lips continue to hover, “are you asking me out?”

“Shut up. Yes or no.”

Yuu snorted. Their kiss deepened. Mika let his leg slide in between Yuu’s knees, getting the desired effect of a gasp out of him as his hands slid underneath his shirt.

“Good, we’re agreed.” Mika broke contact and tugged at Yuu’s belt loops, “Now, we have two hours to kill, and I know exactly how to use them.”
